When are my tires too old to mount?

I have a 2007 vehicle. Every winter I replace these tires with Snow tires and every spring I switch back to normal tires. I only have 1 set of wheels. The service technician at the local store told me the tires were too old to put on my wheels at 6 years old and were a hazzard.
