Do ghosts or spirits have an odor?

As a flooring installer I can say that if the carpet pad and underlayment was saturated it could easily wick back up through the carpet and cleaning the carpet would only be a temporary solution, the pad and subfloor probably need to be replaced. If ghosts exist as energy or light they should have no odor. Smells are created by actual minute airborne particles, and how could light or energy emit aromatic chemical compounds?
